Attilia Kiyoko [Tilly] Cernitori, a cellist who brings to the stage a thrilling fusion of the Italian and Japanese cultures, is recognized for her
passion, technical ability and musicality.
She is the winner of the Absolute First Prize in more than thirty national and international music competitions, such as the First Prize and Medal of the President of the Republic at the International Cello Competition Valentino Bucchi in Rome, the First Prize at the Yamaha Foundation of Europe Competition and the First Prize plus the Grand Prix at the International Tournament of Music.
Mario Brunello has written of her, “Attilia Kiyoko Cernitori is one of the most interesting and talented young cellists I know, for her instrumental skills, vitality and intensity which expresses in her performances and her intense sound”, while Gary Hoffman says “Attilia Kiyoko Cernitori is a gifted cellist and a most attractive personality, musically and personally speaking. Her presence on stage is persuasive and is always convincing in her musical communication. I know her contributions to musical life will be very important and valuable.”
Born in Rome, Italy, from an Italian father and a Japanese mother, Ms. Cernitori has appeared as a soloist in prestigious venues, including
La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, Parco della Musica in Rome and Mozarteum in Salzburg.
Ms. Cernitori has collaborated with such artists as Salvatore Accardo, Bruno Giuranna, Paul Badura-Skoda, Jörg Demus, Danilo Rossi, Rodolfo Bonucci, Jin Ju e Daniele Damiano [Berliner Philharmoniker].
Her performances have been broadcasted by RaiUno, ORF, LimenMusic and Rete Toscana Classica.
Ms. Cernitori started playing the cello at the age of 9. After the Master's Degree cum laude from the Conservatorio Cherubini in Florence, she earned a Diploma at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Rocco Filippini and a PostGraduate with Prof. Valentin Erben at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien.
Ms. Cernitori participated in master classes with great artists such as Mario Brunello, Gary Hoffman and Thomas Demenga.
Her first CD for the Gramola label [Vienna], with piano Trios by Zemlinsky, Gal and Goldmark, performed with violinist Thomas Albertus Irnberger and pianist Evgueni Sinaiski, has been highly praised by critics.
Another CD with her in a soloist repertoire is on-the-go.
Upcoming engagements include concerts in Europe and the Americas, as well as a new recording project for 2013.
